Some years ago now, the World Mission Council of the Church of Scotland received a request from the Presbytery of eGoli in Johannesburg, South Africa asking if a twinning might be considered with the Presbytery of Edinburgh. Their interest was to discover more about their historic roots of their Presbyterianism from the mother church and the presbytery of the city in which it took shape. Last year three people from the Presbytery of Edinburgh visited Johannesburg and now the invitation has been extended to four delegates from eGoli who will arrive on Friday, 15 June for a week.
As part of their itinerary the four will spend Saturday afternoon, 16 June, with Polwarth Church as we take part in the annual Edinburgh Canal Festival and Raft Race. We will be serving ice cream sundies and other refreshments, providing musical entertainment, and at 2pm we will be officially opening the mooring on the canal garden.
On Sunday 17 June, two of the group, the Rev Thembinkosi Kenneth Nopapaza and Mrs Thandeka Buthelezi, an elder, will partipcate in our Sunday worship.
We look forward to receiving our visitors and representing to them the Presbytery of Edinburgh.
